Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula has been the ancestral home of a Tatar people for centuries.   But for almost half of the past decade, Crimea has been occupied by Russia. 

The invaders have banned the Mejlis, which is the Representative Assembly.  Crimean Tatars are now subject to arrests and attacks.
